United price dropped after you booked

United gives the difference back as a travel credit when the fare on your same flights goes down, but its website won’t do it: united.com shows your own flights as unavailable when you try to change to them. You need an agent, in the United app’s chat or at 1-800-864-8331.

Ask for a repricing of the same flights and the difference as a future flight credit. Some agents quote a fee when they handle it by phone; ask for it to be waived.

Steps checked against United’s own help pages on October 22, 2026.

The steps

Ask United to reprice your same flights. The difference comes back as a travel credit.

  1. 1
Chat or call UnitedIn the United app, open Help and tap Chat with us, then ask for an agent. Or call 1-800-864-8331.
  2. 2
Ask for a repricing“The price of my flights went down. Please reprice my ticket to today’s lower fare on the exact same flights, same dates and same times. I don’t want to change anything. Please give me the difference as a future flight credit.” Keep the flights; don’t cancel anything.
  3. 3
Check your seatsA reissued ticket can lose its seats. Open your trip afterwards and pick them again if they are gone.
  4. 4
Find the creditUnder travel credits in your MileagePlus account, usually the same day.
What you get back

A future flight credit for the difference, per passenger, in each passenger’s name.

If they push back, ask for a supervisor or try again later. United’s own rules give a travel credit when the new fare is lower. Never cancel the ticket to rebook it yourself.

Good to know

  • United’s website won’t change a ticket to the same flights, so this takes an agent. United may charge a fee when an agent handles it by phone; ask for it to be waived.
  • Use the credit by the date printed on it, usually a year out. Your trip has to start by then.
  • The difference usually comes back as airline credit, not cash. Check the expiry date on it; most last about a year.
  • Repricing can lower the status credit you earn on this trip, because some airlines count what you paid.
  • Basic fares can’t be changed for a lower price, so Tuur doesn’t alert on them.

Which tickets qualify

  • Economy and above.
  • Not Basic Economy. It can’t be repriced at all.
